A Software Development Asset (also known as an SDA or an asset) is a collection of facts and information about something of value to you. An asset can be anything from a set of code or a component to a pattern or a best practices document. The idea is that if an asset exists that would be beneficial to you, the Asset Viewer will help you find it easily. Not only that, but once found, you'll have all types of information about the asset readily available to you.
Each Asset consists of a variety of information types, including:
Classifier Values -- facts about the asset on which you can perform searches.
Asset Relationships -- information about how this asset is related to other assets.
Artifacts -- Information about all aspects of the asset, including things such as Interface Models, User Guides, web site references and more. Some artifacts are downloadable from Asset Viewer. Others (called private artifacts) require logging into the library to acquire the asset artifact.
Asset Viewer provides a variety of search methods designed to let you find assets the way you'd like. You can provide a bit of information and get a quick list of assets that match, or you can provide more criteria to exactly match the asset(s) you want to find.
Asset Tree -- Assets are readily accessible to you on your left navigation bar. By expanding the Asset Tree, you will find assets grouped by classifier values. Expand the tree by group to locate specific assets, and click on an asset name to display its information.
Search Box -- Provides a quick way to list assets based on a variety of asset elements including name, function name, keyword and others.
Asset Query -- Finds assets by classification criteria values, asset name and/or asset function name.
Model Based Search -- Finds assets by means of identified reference functionality. This type of search can also include classification criteria values.
